Cedric J. Sermons

The Power of Music

Cedric J. Sermons is a Music Educator, Low Brass Private Instructor, Arranger, and Low Brass Clinician from the beautiful Chain of Lakes City, Winter Haven, Florida. 

Mr. Sermons began his musical endeavor in the 7th grade as an extremely passionate trombone player. Mr. Sermons attended Lake Region High School where he began to accelerate in music. He participated in symphonic and jazz ensembles, district and state honor bands, district honors orchestra, Florida State University Tri-State Band Festival, and a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society.

After graduation, Mr. Sermons attended Florida A&M University (FAMU) where he participated in the Incomparable "Marching 100" Band. As a Section Leader in the "Marching 100", Mr. Sermons participated in several high-profile performances including Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show with "Prince", Super Bowl XLIV Pregame Show, The 18th ESPY Awards Show, and the Presidential Inauguration Parade of Barack Obama. As an active member of the FAMU Wind Ensemble, Mr. Sermons performed for the Florida Music Educators Association Conference, and the American Bandmaster's Association Conference. Mr. Sermons also performed in the top FAMU Jazz Ensemble, who won 1st prize in the Crescent City Music Jazz Festival.

Mr. Sermons personally serves as a private instructor with several students whom have earned superior ratings on solo works at the district and state performance level. Under his expertise, Mr. Sermons has served as a clinician to several high school bands in the state that have earned superiors or top honors. Mr. Sermons has also served as Assistant Director/Arranger for Weber International University Band, and Assistant Director of the Marching Wolverine Band (Community Band), and Director of the Tampa Bay "Be Out Day" Band.

Mr. Sermons is a dedicated member of the FAMU "Marching 100" Alumni Association, Florida Music Education Association, National Association for Music Education, Nation Education Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Incorporated (Past Chapter President), and the American Legion.

In addition to his love and involvement in music, Mr. Sermons is a Veteran of the United States Navy, and proudly served as a Master at Arms (Military Police).

Mr. Sermons earned his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida graduating Summa Cum Laude.
